Do yourself a favor

Watch Spike Lee's documentary on Katrina.

I am a squeamish person. When I was a child, I couldn't watch Lassie. It was too stressful. I was appalled and sick during the storm at the lack of response. But I'm watching this documentary.

I've seen good storm response - even from Republicans. I was consulting for a state (IL) agency in 1993 or 1994 when there were terrible Mississippi floods and the whole state and federal government pulled together to rescue people and try to sandbag. There was very little loss of life. I also remember the 1997 Grand Forks flood in North Dakota. Everyone worked together and people were saved and the town has done decently.

Katrina was a total failure from top to bottom. I just hope we don't lose any more cities in the next two years.

  • I don't get HBO, but I did see NBC's show on Katrina with Brian Williams. One thing that struck me was that Williams was talking about how they defended their food and water from the suffering residents, but NBC has made a pile of money off these folks with free programming of their suffering. Couldn't they spare some food and water?
